Got my first Aro!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just keep it with the silver dollars for now once it get bigger say 12 - 15 inchs then you can decide on tank mates that cn stay with it for the rest of its life, believe me my mate has had loads of arowana and they grow very fast so you wont be waiting long :) lso stocking depends on the tank you have aswell

Don't forget to close the tank lid, usually ends with an dried up arowana on the floor if you forget to close it... sad truth:cry::cry::cry:

Could you keep a young aro with say, a young clown knife? they have similar growth and feeding habbits and occupy different areas of the tank.

also I'm just curious, can you grow out bottom dwellers like bichirs, when youre growing out an arro? cause they both spent most their time in complete opposite areas of the tank and unless its a jardini they both have a laid back temprement?

avoid oscars they will pick on your aro. many sa cichlids will be fine depending on the size of your aro. now it should be alone but as long as you keep am eye on those dollars it might be ok.

ex i have my 6" silver aro with a peacock eel, a 6" rck and 6x 3" frontosas. i watch them everyday all day because i work at night. they are all fine. i dont recomend trying anything unless you can be there all the time to wach them until they are larger.

Hmm yeah, i've just put the oscars in 5 gal, and seems now they r paired wow... Am not sure anyway...

And SDs too acting like fighting, chasing each other and got very little black spot after the gill on each side, seems they are mating...

I live in Sri Lanka and it's hard to get correct info about SA Cichlids. Most FS owner dn't know about there fish native place or even correct name lol.. Any info, where i can get?

Hmm Chitala Chitala is in our coutry side rivers(introduced) also, but i didn't saw anyone selling them on my entire life
and anyway they are not South Americans (even bichir)

How about mixing my Gator Gar (7") ?

gar is a bad idea dont even try it. maybe when it is bigger a different gar might work but never a gator.

you can find good info in the cichlid section they can help you with cichlid selection.
