i fed mine lots of crickets gut loaded with omega flakes and had better than 1 inch per month growth. a little word of advice: do not doubt the size of the opening that it needs to jump out of the tank. mine got to about 12 inches and jumped out of my 240 gallon through a 1 " gap in my glass tank covers
