Got my first kayak!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice pick up. I pick up a nice hobie PA late summer, used it for bass fishing and was hooiking like crazy.
Ill be fishing for sturgeon when it opens. Have fun, if I missed your read about PDF, get one when you have the opportunity.

So I put the kayak in the sound today. The good news, the yak doesnt leak, I stayed in it and I didnt lose anything.

The bad news, my back is KILLING me. I have a bad back, the Drs Ive been to say nothing is wrong but I wasnt 50m from the beach and my left leg was dang numb and my back was throbbing.

I toughed it out a bit but it was rough out there. I tried fishing for sheepies on the Navarre Bridge but my 5lb dumbell "anchor" wouldnt hold. On account of the rough water, wind and aching back I was back on the beach in less then 40min.

I am pretty down. The yak felt safe and stable despite the roungh water (even took a couple over the bow) but my body isnt built for yak life Im afraid, and Im only 26.

Im going to give it a couple more shots in calmer condition and see if that helps before I call it quits just yet.

Oh, and getting it up on the jeep was a task in its self.

Give it a chance, perhaps just move in the kayak for awhile THEN begin fishing from it...baby steps young padawan....

Wow that is a really great deal. I say give it some time practice more and you'll be able to stay out longer paddle farther. Just dont forget to put on your life jacket.
I have a whistle tied onto my pfd in case I need to get someone's attention for help. Good luck.

I just purchased an inflatable kayak online and cant wait to take it out and use it.

Don't give up! I also have a kayak and also fish on a bass boat but there's something about being so close to the water when you're fishing.

Here's a pic of my yak
