:iagree: have a read up on the stickied i.d thread above, heaps of info on the different types of cichla in there.. not all are commonly available though. Most common are ocells, monos, orinos, tems.. if you know where to look you can get keleberis, azuls & pinimas too.. If you upload a good pic of the guy at the lfs we can try and id him for you :)
will do....ive seen an exact match to the one at the lfs. its some1's avatar. i just cant remember who

hahaha try to remember who and ill tell you what it is.

If he is eating blood worms feed him blood worms too. I always try different foods with new fish. If they take it great if not give them what they will eat. If you can get him on a varied diet now youre miles ahead of the game.

Thanks everyone. I assume it's a mono but will just have to wait and see. It was just labled as peacock bass. Unfortunately I can't take any pictures. I have him in my tank at work just for quarentein and grow out and my work doesn't allow any camera's. When it get's to 5 inches I'll bring it home and get some pics up. Maybe it will be big enough to ID by them.

How fast should I expect this guy to grow?

Congrats on your first. I'm too new to Cichla spp. to be giving out much advice, but one thing I would say is to get your temp up a couple more degrees. It should grow at least an inch per month up to a point...faster growth when it's that small.

what do you do for work that cameras arent allowed in?

I'm a chemist. I work in a laboratory that does an lot of highly confidential environmental testing. It's mostly just a precaution, but it is a rule listed in our policy manual. I doubt I would get in much trouble, but it's better safe then sorry these days.

ah i see cool.
