I just bought a 5 inch Royal Pleco ( L-190 ) i believe....Right now i'm trying squash so we shall see how that works, any other food ideas that work well? Thanks!

zuchinni.

welcome to the world of fish i affectionately call crap machines.

heres something i recently tried..

Potato, they also like melon.. honeydew or cantaloupe... but the melons are a bit expensive for pleco... but i have tried it..

niiice! congrads! You might want to invest in algae wafers too. I give mine veggies but it also likes the wafers!

Do you blanch the fruits? Thanks

with the zuchinni it works just as well to freeze the it. the freezing destroys the cells and makes it more easily edible just like blanching, but with out the scalding hot water or you tossing burning zuchinni between your hands.. plus frozen you can keep the food alot longer.

edit: yea they waste alot plus there vegetables bring down water quality fast, so theres something to watch out for.

yeah, definitely by a pack of algae wafers cuz its just a lot easier, give em those and then once a week or whatever give them melon, potato, or zucc as a treat

Whoo-hoo! Congrats! You couldn't have started with a nicer plec :-) I've got 2 L190's and 2 L191's that I really adore. They're great about eating anything. Zucchini, squash, mango, sweet potato, bell peppers, cucumber, peas, beans, etc etc. Mine also love algae wafers, Tetra granules, Cichlid flakes, bloodworms, brine shrimp-they'll eat about anything. They're real still during the day but after lights out they come alive scrounging all over for food. I just got a brand new baby (3") L190 the other day.
