Got myself a big ol' fire eel!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice pickup. I just picked up one too, but mine's a little smaller than you'rs. I was just at the Shedd Aquarium earlier today. They had one that must have been at least 36" long. Hopefully ours will be that big one day too.

Nice eel, such good colors!

I used to feed mine earthworms right after lights out on the tank. Once a week I also dumped 100 ghost shrimp into the tank.

ive been soo close to buying big fire eels sooo many times.... one of these days i will.............lol

What’s he feeding on? Did you ask them when you got him? It just when you first put them in with other fish they can starve unless you hand feed them keep us informed as he is certainly a stunner;) .

Just thought i'd update, he's very settled and got this big tree stump he's taken over. Was very worried about feeding and had tried putting bloodworm under his nose for the first 5 days to no avail and then the heavens opened, down came the rain and got myself a bunch of earthworms! he's munched about 20 in the last 3 days, first from tongs and now from hand so i think it's safe to say he's gonna be fine. Fingers crossed I can grown him on even more now and I'll post some more pics as he gets bigger.

Thanks for your help and advice guys as he coulda been in big trouble without your help. just one question, how many worms should i feed him and how often?

Good to see he is eating they can be very funny when moved as for feeding if he wants to eat feed him just give him a day or two off and try to vary the diet. If your local LFS has some river shrimps try them,my one used to go mad for them. told you the worm was a winner.;)

yeah cheers mate, thanks again for the advice. there's a lfs i don't really use about a 5min walk away that always has river shrimp so will nip down there in the week and give it a go.

It's in with my mbu, channa auranti, polys and some cichlids. you can see his tankmates if you click the link in my signature.

Not expensive at all actually, picked him up for £25 (about $45).
