If you kept 1 male maybe 2 with 6 females with that large of a tank you could probably get away with it but I don't think you could keep 4 males and 6 females.
Best to keep an eye on them and watch closely. If you see them picking on one really keep an eye on them.
Also if the female isn't ready the male will in some instances beat her up trying to breed even though she is not ready, even kill her. So if you pull one make sure it is a male not female. That is why they are best in harems, cause if one is not ready maybe another is and the male will not pick on the same female.
If it is a male fighting with another male they will lock jaws.
The number of Tropheus is not as important as the male to female ratio. 1 to 5-6 female is ideal more females if possible

It is always nice to have large numbers of them for a colony like some people say to do. But not always financially practical for some, Therefore if you keep 10 to 12 of them it is always better to have a high number of females to males.
If you keep a colony of 2 dozen well then 3 or 4 males may be Ok.
Once your colony settles in and establishes its pecking order one male will establish himself as number 1 and breed with certain females, but not all females will be attracted to him. The females not attracted to number 1 will likely go for the number 2 male.
As for as adding new Tropheus to a well established colony, not really adviseable, he will usually be attacked by everyone within minutes and likely killed, if not killed will be put in his place so strongly that they usually get sick and die.
That is why you establish a colony all at once from small specimens. But like
I said earlier, Keep a close eye on them and sex them as soon as you can.
Tropheus are farely easy to vent. Males have much smaller vents and vent openings than females.

PICTURES!

I'm in the process of taking pictures right now. So far i can't get them to hold still long enough to get a decent shot. I'm doing a water change this afternoon so I'm hoping to get a few decent shots then.
