Got the gaft moved!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Great looking guy! I've mine for about 20 months now n he's gone from 4" to 12.5-13". Good to see another GATF with similar growth rate, I knew that they grew slow but still I was a little concerned that my guy is stunned lol

Perhaps feeding it less but few times a day may be the key. If you didn't do it I mean.
One of mine grew at noticeable rate. Went from 4" to 8" in four months. The .5 per month rate is normal, I know. The point is one was my "smaller" one (4"). It was left to cut-fish-train in 80g while the "bigger" one (5") was kept in my new, big tank. I thought it's gonna die but once it took cut fish, it never look back. It's now eating whatever I threw into a tank until its belly's full, resulting faster growth rate.

Yea this Geo is a stud.. i have had him forever!

The gatf was around 6.5" or so when i got him back in december almost two years ago.

Man, those GATF are pretty slow growing. Mine too. I got six that have gone from 3" to 8" or so in half a year.

People in other threads reported that their GATF, probably exceptions, hit 2' in 1-2 years.

Some believe there's two strains of goliaths. Greenerinks was a strong believer of this. I believe he kept plenty of gatf and only one had that fast growth rate

Sometimes I wish that my Goliath grew as fast as a peacock bass. But then reality kicks in and I’m thankful that he isn’t a fast grower. I would have had to build a little pool by now to keep mine lol. And due to space constraints, the largest water container (apart from my 300) I can afford currently is a 240.
Mostly my wish is for my 15” VATF and my GATF to live peacefully with each other lol. I know that will never happen. A few months ago I was moving my big guys over to a 300 gallon and for a day I had to put my VATF and the GATF in the same tank... within hours, the vittatus was chasing the Goliath around. And The poor GATF had a few deep gashes by the time I separated them.

The ones that are fast growers tend to be more aggressive as well so maybe it is a good thing lol

Seeing this post sure makes me miss my beastly gatf..... but back to the topic, absolutely I still firmly believe that there are possibly several variants of gatf. Once in awhile, you will run across some that will shock you at how fast they will grow. I'm happy to see you guys taking good care of these magnificent creatures.
