Got my tank going now, a 6x2x2 with a canister filter and internal, not much cop so i am going out in a bit to collect a couple of 2x1x1 tanks for a sump filter which i am going to make myself.

When i set the tank up i used near 50% of the old water from the tank when i bought it, the PH is fixed at 7 after 2 water changes and the ammonia is 0, aswell as the nitrates and nitrites.

Now i will be doing another 25% water change in 3 days and so on for the next few weeks and keeping a check on the water.

The thing i want to know is if i am wrong in if the water chemistry stays as is, stable, then i will be ok for adding a couple of Retic ( tea cup ) rays.

I have a couple of fish in at the minute and i will put on a vid soon as i forgot what thye are called as the chap gave me the latin name for them as he didnt know the common name.

There is a chap over here with a few in quarantean and will be ready in about 3 weeks, so if al goes well i am hoping to get 2 of these, i will be having a look at them when they are ready to be sure of them.

And on the filter thing, i will run the new sump with canister to get it cycled so the rays should be ok with the canister on there own untill the sump is cycled.

Any pictures Wayne?

with nitrates at 0, sounds like you have more cycling to do

Sorry, just done it again and the nitrate 5.

I have these pics, i need to do a few bits like raise the lid so i can fit a light properly, not resting on the braces. Oh and paint it to match the front room to keep SWMBO happy. the least i can do after what she has to put up with LOL.

I have a vid of the two fish, so if you can tell me what they are that would be great, and if they will be happy with the rays, well the rays happy with them.

You will need to put a cover on the heaters asap or the rays will burn on there which will scar or kill them. Is that a parrot or flower horn too? If so they have been known to cause issues so keep an eye on them.

Good luck and keep up the water testing long term as rays can really push the parameters very quickly.

No worrys mate, all i hand, i have just got a smaller tank for a sump filter so the heaters mite fit in there, if not i will be getting some heater cages.
the tank deocr willl be moved about a little before the rays come so they have more footage to play in.
The fish i have just found out are a type of Spotted Severum, they grow to around 10 inch so i hope they will be safe from the bigger fish, but then when the TSN i am gettin ggets fully grown...maybe not

your tank is not cycled yet adding 50% old water will not do the trick. good thing you have 3 weeks. maybe use some seachem stability also when you get the rays to help out.
