Got the tank set up now ...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Things are getting better the nitrate is on the up ( 10 )and the rest stable, doing s 25% tomorrow so lets see what happens.

This tank is just the begginings of the fun, in six months or so i hope to have a 800g tank set up so there will be plenty of room for the rays etc, the rays i have been looking at are reticulatus which only grow to around 14 inch disc, two of them and a TSN, australian aro a few few other bits should be happy in there.

your tank still has a long way to go. like i said earlier adding 50% old water is not going to cycle your tank. needs alot more than just old water.

that depends on how youare cycling it, how big of a tank, if you are using anything to hep, and things like that. i cant really tell you when its cycled that just dependson your water readings. maybe read some threads on cycling so you have a better understanding of it.

you're also forgetting very long tails, 14+ inches. my male's tail is much longer than his disc. even my female's injured tail is much longer than her body.

you're looking at 24-30 inches, roughly.

hence, 2 ft is not enough room.

Hi all, i am not sure if i have mentiond this on this thraed, i have elsewhere, but this is only for maybe 6 months to rear the fish as i like to see them grow, i am in the planning and getting materilas together for a 800g 9x5x3 aquarium.
I wouldnt dream of getting these kind of fish without the need to house them, although folk do.

Well on the water reading, the tank has been stable since the last post, PH 7, ammonia 0, nitrites <0.1, nitrate 10-20. I have done two 25% water changes 3 day intervals also since last post.

Looking good....?

Another thing i didnt say was when i set the tank up aswell as using 50% of the old water i used the fully cycled/used original filters.

Sounds good, are you able to add just one fish and test the water daily?

As long as you keep testing and you are prepared for regular decent water changes then you should be able to handle and future issues.

You can add some bacterial additives such as denitrol etc...most fish shops have their favourites.

Hi there, i already have 2 large severums and 2 small oscars in there, happy as larry they are, infact the severums feed by hand and are tame to tickle them as i found out tonight LOL that was.

I will be doing another 25% water change tomorrow and will ebalong with before and after eading, then every 12 hrs after as i ahve been doing, that mite be over the top on tests but it tells me how things are going.

Just been looking at what other ryas to get, just thata lot say the Retics are difficult to get going and the ones i have found are young, around 5-6 disc. Thing is i like the size they grow to.
