got this message in my pm from whoever the hell this guy is...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I can't say if your fish are wild caught or not. I CAN tell you that the guy who sent the PM is completely WRONG. That's exactly the size fish that is collected to bring back. You only have limited space in your box. The smaller the better. He has no idea what he's talking about. Ignore him.

Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHO else still wanna say they are too small to be collected? But before u say something make sure you've been out there and know what you are talking about before you make an azz out of yourself trying to blemish someone.

It's messed up to accuse someone like that especially in front of the whole community. How would you like it?

Well, maybe they are just stupid lil kids who like to assume things everywhere they go.

I assume we are talking about COA? If so, I believe the fish are wild caught.

I'd actually be happy if I was you if your fish wasn't wild caught. I know everyone wants to feel special like they have something special. It's not like we're doing fish any favors putting them in our tanks. Well at least with captive breed ones you can at least say you can give them a better home than some novice aquarist that might unintentionally kill them. With the supply of captive bread fish what's the point of having a wild caught one, except because you want to feel important and pat yourself on the back. I know a person might argue well some of the wild caught fish might've ended up as food and not lived long anyways. That can happen in an aquarium too though. At least they'd be food for another fish that doesn't get fed everyday, but has to look for food. What's more important letting the natural ecosystem do it's thing or having a special fish? I've never went to a zoo and thought these animals are lucky to be stuck in cages than out in the wild with others of their kind, have you? ST datnoids are extinct in their native area, because of of overfishing for the aquarium trade. I hate to see that happen to other species. If you start taking the babies that's the future of the species. If something can't be bred in captivity it probably shouldn't be taken from the wild and put in an aquarium.

Fish have so many young because the survival rate in the wild is very slim to adulthood. I don't think netting out 500 out of the millions in the body of water will at all be detrimental to their population. Most anyone who doesn't buy fish from pet store chains, seek wild fish because they're known to be 'pure' and look to try and spawn them.

My personal preference is to buy F1 or F2 fish because they are a little more adapted to captivity and in my experience they will be a little more resilient to life in a tank.

The point is, like others have said, young fry are actually easier to import and yes, it does happen, more so than large fish are brought in. If you would like to argue that it is unethical and in your opinion wrong then that's fine but this isn't the thread to do so.

You bought from a dealer with a long-standing good reputation. When dealers are highly recommended on this forum, there are many different reasons for it and not only their honesty.

F1s and wilds are equal to me when it comes to just 1 fish. But sibling f1s breeding to each other is another story..

But this is pretty much about ppl accusing a seller of lying with nothing to prove but their own assumptions.

I know you're right. I actually wondered myself why I went on a rant about that in the thread. Lol. I would've deleted it, but I don't have that power. I can't edit either to something pertaining to the actual discussion.

I will say that you have to trust the seller was honest with you. That's how good business relationships work. Ignore what that guy had to say. I don't see a way to know for sure what you have, so you just have to go off the trust you had when you bought the fish. Either way just enjoy what you have.

For many people, acquiring wild caught species is more about adding new bloodlines to the hobby than it is about feeling special. I'm sure there are those that want WC for bragging rights but not most people. I don't know all the details of harvesting wild fish so I can't make a comment about it. As for the vendor in question, I have dealt with and spoken with him in the past and he has always been straight forward with me.
