gots me clown loaches... need help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They grow quickly within a year or two to 6 inches and slowly increase in size to reach 12 inches which is the maximum in captivity recorded. A lot of arowanas tend to eat the loaches. Now, if the loaches release their blades found below each eye, then its body will lodge itself in the arowana's throat killing both fish in the process. This is why I will never recommend mixing loaches with arowanas. Both hail from different continents and will never mix well regardless of anyone's claims.

do you guys think they would be ok with my piranhas if i give them a bunch of caves and plants to run around... i know they are really fast.. but are they faster than a piranha??

would the 125 be ok to put them in after i get rid of the pacu... cuz that is gonna be happening this weekend i think.. if the guy pulls through..

if not ill just sell them to my lfs..

Just quarantine them for awhile and plan a large tank for themselves. None of your tanks will accommodate them I'm afraid.
It will take them several years to bust a 125G.

Clown loaches have retractable spines below their eyes. If your aro happens to decide to have them for lunch then it can potentially choke on them. Clown loaches can get to 12 inches but take a long time to reach it. Just from looking at your stock you'll need bigger tanks for some of your fish and not just the clown loaches.
Good points.

I have seen it done well successfully on many occassions, not only on MFK.

Don't put them with your Ps. I have seen some members get very valuable fish ripped apart by their Ps.

Overall, no more impulse buys, and they might be okay with the aro DEPENDING on the size difference.

Don't put them with piranhas.

Hey guys i just bought 4 clown loaches and was wondering where i should put them. the tanks are listed below with the fish currently in them..

75- arowana, 3 large angelfish, few juvi bristle nose plecos, 2 adult bn plecos..

45 - 3 discus, ~20 neon tetras, 4 juvi bn plecos

75 - 6 2 inch rbps, 1 common pleco

29 - arowana, 3-4 juvi bn plecos

125 - 2 18+ inch pacus (trying to find them a new home, 2 10 inch tinfoil barbs.

75 - jd, gt, mang, pair of cons (this tank is really weird... ) 4-5 juvi bn plecos

55 - 5 fancy goldfish, pair of bn plecos

29 - bn pleco fry, 40 neon tetras..

so which tank do you guys think i should put the CLs in??

In the 45 would be good, although they will outgrow it eventually. The 125 would be better, although I'm not sure if pacu ever eat smaller fish. The 75 with the cichlids might also work.

Basically, a large enough tank without anything that will eat them.

Okay, once again, I don't think he's planning on keeping them in that tank for life. If I have a fire eel in a 100G (which I do), should I not do that? It's not gonna be 3 feet overnight. Likewise, a CL won't be 12 inches over night. It will take several years, maybe even a decade or so.

:iagree:Maybe back to the store?:nilly:

not going back to the store i got them at.. cuz they are closing.. which is the reason i bought them :D super cheap ..

ill post them up here first then just give them to the store if nobody wants them..

Ewurm or JD Man may be the persons you are looking for. They're into clown loaches. I wish I could get them but not when I'm from Asia.

The Discus tank sounds the best for now. The 125 after the Pacus are gone will make them a good home.
