My sveni right now only eats feeders and frozen food. He ignores pellets, and mouths flakes briefly then spits them out. All other fish in the tank eat dry food as well as frozen (he nabs all the feeders). To get him to eat dry food, do I starve him? How long is safe to starve him? He’s roughly 5” now and ALWAYS hungry.

Other than starvation, any other suggestions?

ive yet to see a pike take floating pellets, sometimes mine will take massivore
otherwise its a mix of krill and catfish for him

my bellycrawler takes floating pellets, sinking pellets, flakes and whatever i feed him. Didn't do anything special just fed them same thing i fed all my fish and he eventually got the picture. I'd say if you starve him for a couple days he will be willing to take anything you throw in the tank. If he doesn't eat for 4 days go ahead and throw a feeder in, but i doubt you'll have to wait even that long.

Some may take a while, but having other fish in the tank eating pellets should help. Even my atabapo fires started eating pellets this past week (they are very competitive with the jag that shares their tank, and he eats pellets...so they HAD to, just to bother him :D ).

Feeding mainly Tetra Colorbits to the juvi GT, some Hikari Gold floating pellets, also some sinking Cichlid chunky pellets from Wardley. Also Wardley sinking shrimp pellets for my bichir.

Massivore? Is this a different kind of pellet?

Massivore, I believe it's a Hikari product. I use Hikari Cichlid Gold, and Bio-Gold. My pikes love 'em. My cr. johanna got huge in 3 months on 'em. and the "belly crawler" loves 'em. I do seem to be having a similar problem with my sveni as well.

I just took these pics after a morning feeding of Hikari Cichlid Gold. Notice the fat bellies on all but the little sveni.

If you don't eat pellets and flakes at my place you starve, I can get wild pikes on dry food usually within a week of importing them. I feed bloodworms for a few days, they start mixing in pellets, then no frozen at all. As long as you keep putting in frozen foods and feeders he's never going to take dry food, They won't starve for several weeks, but hunger will make him try new things. Ken

ok I threw in 2 small feeder guppies this morning (which he took right as they hit the water... the little guy's got it down to an art), but starting tonight it's tough love.

Hate the see his belly look empty, so hopefully he gives the dry food a try. I'll pick up some Massivore this week too.

Thanks guys, will update.
