Gotta get my sveni onto dry foods

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ive had me a bunch of svenis but only 1 would take pellets. They will all eat FD krill. The 1 I have now would go without eating for weeks while every other fish in its tank ate pellets around it. I have it eating market shrimp as of now...

have about 10 other fish in the tank that will eat pellets even my albino polys
lol

yikes.. well I'll give it a few days and see if he eats any. Not sure if I'm prepared to starve him! :/

speaking of New Spectrum - I bought some after reading some rave reviews on MFK. They only had 1 kind of it at the Big Al's - for a whopping $15 - and the pellets are so tiny it leaves me wondering how they can call it a cichlid pellet! I assume they come in bigger sizes..?

I do what Ken does. Feed them their fav. frozen food for a few days, then start mixing in the dry food with the frozen. Gradually reduce the amount of frozen and increase the dry foods. Normally works. Pikes are GREEDY mo fo's...their belly normally wins them over. Some can be pretty stubborn though. Presoaking the pellets helps some as well, especially if you add a LITTLE powdered garlic to the water...;)

most of the time (not sure about new spectrum) pellets come in several sizes. Good thing you got some new stuff, i have just recently picked up some wardly shimp pellets and i have to say its just horrid. falls apart way too easily and fish don't react to it that well. Aquarian sinking pellets have garnered the best seccess out of all of the brands of food i've tried.

yea the new Wardley pellets aren't as good as the old ones - they do break apart too quickly. As long as the bichir finds them quick its ok (I only put a few in at a time).

Peanut, that's a good suggestion - I'll try soaking the pellets in with the mysis shrimp, and maybe pick up some garlic powder/liquid too.
