Here's a little background info...

I have never owned a fish or a fishtank in my life. Recently my GF moved in with me and she has a 55g goldfish tank that sparked my interest in keeping fish. I browsed some websites that talked about fish stuff and MFK seemed to be a meeting place for some very skilled and polite people. I researched many different things for nearly 2 months straight...went from wanting to buy a used 120g tank, to finding a good deal on craigslist for a 180g, then I found the DIY section of this site. After reading countless threads on people building magnificent custom tanks, I decided to take my hands for a little journey...

Box o' goodies! FX5 I found for $125 at a LFS and a 25' Python I got on eBay for $28.

That's a nice goldfish setup, and the way you're starting I'm anxious to see you a year or two in. Good luck and keep it monster.

I like the bold move...DIY is the best. I usually see the guys w/ a gf who only tolerate their tanks lol

Update: No pics:cry:...Buying lumber to make the stand tomorrow; 30ft of 4"x4", 20ft of 2"x4", 2 sheets of 1/2" plywood, and a 1/2" sheet of foam. Finished making the 30g sump, FYI if you want to section off a sump with cheap glass, go to Home Depot! 10"x12" glass(2/16") for $2. I bought a little glass cutting tool to cut the glass, very user friendly and around $6.

Saturday, October 31st ---> Google Sketchup tank stand, buy lumber and cut it.

Sunday, November 1st ---> build stand, post progress pics for you visual folks.:grinno:

Monday, November 2nd ---> assemble 150g tank with help from my dad, post pics of course!

Are you sure you only want the notch 1" deep. That will keep your water level in the tank less than one inch from the top.
