Gotta start somewhere amirite?!?!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
any ideas for covering / protecting the overflow ? I mean protecting the fish from getting in there ? Since our tanks looks so similar I was curious if you had some resolution for that one ...

Nicely done my friend, I hope that you gonna go all out and incorporate CO2 + ph controller for the plants ;)

Peace

You probably want something as cool as your tank instead of just eggcrate across it. You could get some plastic serving sporks and cut the spork part off and mount them to a flat piece of plexi that fits the width of your overflow opening.

http://www.partyatlewis.com/Merchan...Code=11830&Category_Code=2532&Product_Count=9 is what I'm referring to. They are available in clear, white, and black and are cheap.

I can draw a pic of what I'm talking about if you don't understand.

I though it would be cool looking since it would make the fish guard look like teeth. With you putting redbellies in the tank, kinda appropriate.

I was thinking about making one of the overflow quieting device things and placing that in the overflow box...fish would still occasionally get sucked into the overflow, but then I wouldn't have to worry about them going all the way into the sump. Gurgle Buster <---this thing

Since Amazon Swords are "easy" to grow, I doubt I will be adding CO2. I figured I could get away with a thin layer of eco-complete with root tabs, and 4x 10,000K T5 bulbs.

I hear ya, swords love iron + they heavy root-feeders, if you want them to do well dose some iron or better, clay balls in the substrate work like a charm ! The redder the clay the better ;)

Good luck and make sure to post the pic of the overflow once you;re done with it - I set my tank up, it's running but I still gotta do smth about the overflow cuz my cory's are too nosy and they go so close to the overflow ... I won't be surprised to lose some of them :/

ps. "our" kind of overflows are super quiet ! if anything all you gotta do put some "sponge" inside the overflow so that it will reduce the "impact" of the water that is falling from the surface of the tank to the bottom of the overflow - for me this works real good

if the bothering sound of the water comes from the hose, IME hoses used for pool filters "muffle" the sound of the falling water 10x better than regular rubber hoses - give it a shot ;)

Just sold the tank. Gonna be a wall separator in a 1.6 million dollar house here in MN. Gonna be a saltwater tank.
