i have had a dwarf Gourami for about a month its always looked healthy i have him with a baby ebjd in 79 degree water, with regular changes, filtered water, some live plants in the tank, it has a bubble strip, and a blueish light bulb low lighted. . .it eats dried blood worms and flakes, he hasnt eaten in three days is lathargic and it laying on his side. . . please help i have already tried putting proper ammounts of water conditioner and aquarium salt any way you guys can give some suggestions to help save my fish?

Check the poop and gills as well. What color is the poop? Do the gills look pale, bloody red or normal?

Girlfriend had this happen to two of them, water params were good. Sometimes it just happens to the gouramis

How are the fins? Are they red or bloody? If they are, it means you have too much ammonia. Do water changes frequently. I've had fish not eat for a couple of days and it's stressful but the fish looked okay and ate later but your fish seems distressed. Adding water conditioner now wouldn't do anything because water conditioner should be added in the beginning or during water changes. Check your water parameters, The Doctor.

I read through some of your old posts and see that this is a ten gallon tank, and you also had some fish die recently.

I think someone recommended that you boil/bleach everything, so that makes me afraid you have an uncyled tank, which *may* be the problem with the gourami. Do some water changes now, and Google "emergency cycling". EBJDs are very sensitive to water quality..*if* you have an uncycled tank, you risk the health of the EBJD...

If you do have a cycled tank, I apologize!

no apology needed, after the JD died i put my baby ebjd and Gourami in the ebjd is under an inch and the Gourami is about 2in, before i put them in i washed everything out very well and let the tank cycle for about 4 days, the fish have been in the tank and healthy for about three weeks now, i do not know the water conditions but i do weekly ~25% water changes and whenever i have gotten my water tested it comes back looking good. his fins and gills also look healthy waste seems normal...its weird because he looks so healthy but is so lethargic and laying on his side idk what to do... and to calpoly12 what was the outcome of this behavior with your girlfriends fish?

thanks for all the help everyone

Cycling a tank takes weeks, months sometimes.

You need your own Liquid test kit. I promise you, the LFSs version of good is not up to any one here's standards...most of the time they use inaccurate test strips...

If the gourami dies, don't replace it..don't add anymore fish. If you are trying to grow out the EBJD, he needs pristine water..that will be easier for you if he has no tank mates.

I strongly suspect you are not cycled enough to maintain healthy fish. Try doing more water changes..but I will caution you..it is hard to undo damage done by unclyced tanks.

i have well water also, and i get my water tested by a friend with a liquid test kit i have only heard bad things about the dip strips...idk if this matters but when i started up the tank i put some water from another tank that has been running for years in it and start zyme and i also put water conditioners in there, thanks for all your advice so far i just have a few more questions..
is there anything i can do about the gourami now?
why is he randomly sick when they have been in there for awhile?
and with the ebjd i have read that they like having a non cichlid tank-mate?
