Males (the most colorful & desirable looking of course) are so often the most ruthless fish in the tank, be they dwarf or giant.

Yeah ... they're Monsters ;)

i had 2 3 spots, 2 opalines, 1 moonlight, 2 gold and 2 others i for get what they were and they were all in my 60g and they all got along great. i think if you have more aggression is reduced as it is spread out. they were all 3-4 inches.

haha I had the same problem, one opaline one pearl one dwarf and one gold, they killed the gold one and now the remaining three school together. The funny thing is the dwarf, though conisderably smaller than the pearl and about the same size as the others, is definitely the alpha. When they tussle everyone gets out of his way its funny. He's also the oldest and smartest of them. I got this bloodworm cone feeder and he was the only one to go in the top and grub as much as he wanted instead of picking them off the sides, for weeks.

that funny a perl being afraid of a dwarf

I have 2 gold and 2 blue in my 125. they dont really mess with each other at all. my tank is planted pretty heavily.

Is it just me or do most gouramis give the impression of being peaceful fish based on appearance only? That's just to say, if you didn't already know it, wouldn't you assume they would be passive community fish? They don't really look evil to me but they are so often kings of the tank!

Blues, opalines, and golds are all color phases of the three spot.
