A lot of people say Auratus are a nasty fish, but I have had 2 in my setup for over 18months now, and they are perfectly behaved, just spending to day grazing algae from the rocks.

As for price, I havent a clue, Im in England!
I paid £9.95 each, and they are wild caught.

I also just purchased two of such fish at $6 each, both look to be females and are very well behaved in my tank.

10 bucks a pop is way too much....unless its like f1 of wild caught...and yes...they are the grumpiest boogers around....most melanochromis are.

Hope you have a spare tank. When they get older they will dominate and possible kill your other fish.

I just happened to notice your sig, mixing johanni with auratus is a bad idea. The auratus and johanni males hate males with the same body shape melchromis(SP?) forgive the spelling

I hope you have a large tank my friend! or an extra one
