Grade of FH?

I have another question. Being new to owning flowerhorns I don't understand why he is losing his color. This is his 4th day in my tank and he has almost no red on him anymore. He is eating well and swimming around. He usually stays closer to the bottom of the tank but I think that is because he is not used to the water pressure yet (he was kept in a 5g tank before I bought him). Does he sound like he is sick?

It takes a while for the fish to settle in. What size tank are you using and have you checked your water parameters? I'm not saying your water it's bad but if it's different than what they had at the pet store this could be a possibility why it's losing color. It can take a fish while over a week to adjust to a new environment parameters and temperature. What is your current temperature on the tank?

It's in a 55g. Hopefully, I can get a 75g soon. Yes, I have checked my water parameters. The temperature is 80 F.

pH and water hardness could have this affect as well. FH often have weak digestive system, what are you feeding the fish? And 80 degrees should be fine these fish like it warm I normally run my tanks between 82-86. 78+ does them well

I am feeding it Hikari Cichlid Gold pellets and occasionally brine shrimp and beef heart.

I love to feed a variety of foods, however a good pellet food is best. Hikari isnt a bad food. I stay away from anything live even frozen can cause problems due to bacteria. What are your parameters, and has the fish been eating well?

He has been eating well even though whenever he swims around looking for food he always runs into the glass. The pH is 7.5, I'm not exactly sure what the ammonia is, it's probably 0 ppm unless something changed drastically. Nitrites should be 0 ppm and I haven't tested for nitrates in a while. The tank has been cycled.

How long has the tank been cycled for? Normally you get crazy spikes after the tank cycles

You sure it's not an ammonia burn
I just checked. It is.. the ammonia is now 25ppm, nitrites are 0ppm but the nitrates are 8ppm. I just did a water change and used prime conditioner. Any other suggestions on what I should do?
