I have a 4'' male grammy in a 55, i purchase a female the same time which he promptly killed. But i was curious if a full grown male n female could live in a 55.?

in terms of bioload yes, if the filtration is good, but you might need the divider method if breeding is what you want

heres the thing, i dont really want to deal with the hassle of babies. Will the parents eventually take care of the fry. (kill)

The tank is too small. The male will kill the female. I couldn't even keep a pair in a 156g without the male beating down the female.

you could probably do it but you'd have to divide them, you'd probably be fine in that tank for a bit if he's only 4", but would be easier in a larger tank. If you want a pair you kinda have to deal with babies, they might kill them to spawn again... You'll most likely always have babies if you have a pair, you can always sell the babies though.

Maybe if the female is larger it could work . But you never can tell. These cichlids are extremely aggresive and slooooow growers. That is why I went to geos because I can keep them with other fish. However an adult grammodes (male) is a sight to see.

yes it can be done with a permanent divider.

cut a whole in which the female can fit through but the male cant then they will be fine in ue 55g.

That's assuming the male is much larger than the female in which case you don't need a divider. He could build her shelter with driftwood.

Be prepared to keep them permanantly divided. I think divided tanks are ugly but if that's what you want go for it. Otherwise, since you said you don't want fry, why not just grow out a male. Give him a powerhead, they like a little current.

yeh other wise he will have to keep them properly seperted until the male out grows the female.

tanks with dividers are ok if you want them for breeding, thats what im gunna do with my grammodes when there big enough, just having the others for communitys.
