Grammode pair in a 55?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A 55 is small for a grammodes pair IMO, a 75 or 90g with a divider would be much better. If you want to go ahead and get the pair the 55 would work fine as a grow out since they grow slowly.

Yeah a 55 is to small. The male grammode will claim that quickly. You can do a 90g for the pair. Try to put the divider with a hole big enough for the female to fit through and not the male. So when he starts to bully her she can escape from him. Or you can put some pvc piping in there so she can hide. Plus if they spawn, just post the fry on this sight. Plenty of fellow MFKers will buy some. Good luck

do you guys know the growth rate?? it will take like 6 years to reach maximum size and if youre breeding them under 8" then that will slow the growth dramatically.

ive had my grammodes 2 months and theyve grown between 0.1-0.4" in that time, i feed them 3-5 times a day and clean theyre 80G grow out 50% water change atleast 1-2 times a week.

Why do you want a pair if you dont desire breeding? It kinda defeats the purpose. Why not just go with 2 females then? Yeah the parents may eventually kill/eat the babies, but this isnt safe. All fish are in jeopardy to be killed/attacked. In my opinion, a pair of grammodes dont work in a 55 gal.

I just love how aggressive cichlids become once protecting a mate or fry. Not to mention it will help my male grow a good n big hump.

grammodes don't really get a hump.

It seems you'll have to just experiment and see what works and what doesn't.
