after looking at many picture of the different hericthys species I see a resemblance in some of them to a grammodes in like the face like a pantostictus or steindachneri. it was just a thought, wondering what everyone thinks.
I see what you mean. Taxonomists have such different standards for what makes two species similar enough for two lump them together in the same genus. Some focus on appearance, some more based on feeding and behavior. Nowadays they prefer to do it genetically and I do not know how much interest there is to sort out the handful of Central American species that don't really have a taxonomic home.
the thing with genetics is that there is so much room for variation and I know they will get it right when they do decide where to put these awesome fish
