Grammodes picture thread (post your grammodes pix here!!)

Awesome pics cchhcc. I yanked all those from your photobucket page yrs ago (or wherever you had them posted)!!

Some of my fave pics of them. I FINALLY ordered some more...I missed mine big time. They will be going in my 265 and eventually be the top tenants.

Nice fish cchhcc, those pics pretty much show the temperment of these guys. You have any problems with yours in your cichlid community.

VRWC: Thanks for the comments! I really miss the guy. Had a few since, but with a few dovii and other Parachromis it just became redundant. Grammies and dovii are definitely my faves of the piscivores -- interesting how they're so similar in every way except size! If I had to pick, it's tough to go against the littler guys!

Doviikid: They definitely seem to be combative with fish that will resist them back, but I've always had great success keeping them with the less aggressive types (like the rostratus in the pic above). Anything similar (i.e. Parachromis species) is a definite no-no. Until recently, I had a pair in my outdoor pond/tank that coexisted with just about any kind of cichlid you could think of...but that's a huge tank. If I had to choose an ideal setup, I'd try to get a pair (starting with a dozen or so) mixed with two or three pairs of cons or neets and a bunch of dithers (though they often end up dead in less than a huge tank). Perhaps some unrelated fish that wouldn't challenge anyone like some of the calmer Viejas or Astatheros species could be added. As you can see in the pics above, they will respond to aggression in kind but otherwise ignore anything that isn't "food!"

Heres my biggest male. He's around 6". He's F1'Rio Grande Chiapas'

Thats interesting that you mixed them with less aggressives and it worked well. Im "kinda" taking that route with mine this time, with cyanos, an argentea, some HRP's and salvinis being their eventual tankmates, maybe even a runt trimac I have. I know thats not exactly as peaceful tankmates as yours, as Ive found trimacs to be actually as aggressive as any cichlid, but he wont be a mainstay if he/she is aggressive. Mine are going in a 265 with about 20 trimacs, 7 cyanoguttatus, 5 piebald/ barred midas, 2 salvini, 5 JDs, an argentea, a jag and some various small cats, for the next few months. All of the fish aforementioned are 2-3 inches, the grammodes coming are a pair at about 4 inches.

Im going to do this this way because Ive noticed, with all the fish in there, they tend to be less shy. When I feed the tank, its total chaos and every fish in there that used to be shy, is now out in the mix and not scared when I walk up to the tank, especially to feed. Im hoping that the same will apply to the grammodes and that they will become more social and less spooked. It worked with my last pair excellently, and I didnt have half the fish when I had them that I do now.

I have the advantage of having a friend with an LFS that Im growing all these fish out for, so Im killing 2 birds with 1 stone.

Since I'm back on the market for a pair of Grammodes, I figured I'll bump this thread so some newer (and older) Grammode owners can post more pictures!
