Grammodes reaching 10in+

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if you're worried about the male killing the female then i would get a tank with a bigger footprint and make alot of hiding spots and some hardy dithers wouldnt hurt, my friend had salvinis as dithers with a small grammoders pair, saddly he didnt have them long enough to see if they work, but its worth a try

I can't upgrade but ill make some caves for the female that the male can't get into

in a 55 it wont work properly, the divider will help but in a 55 it really shrinks the tank down. the male is going to just kill her. they are like cubans and all be it smaller than midas, and jags, God made them not grow to that size for a reason lol. a male is going to do some damage to the female just because of the 12" width constraint. Stack 2 40g breeders or a 75 just because the width.

Tank mates with grammodes usually work best when the tank mate is much larger than the grammode. I had a grammode and salvini in my 90 and the grammode tormented the salvini to no end. Regardless of the other cichlids and dithers it singled out the salvini cause it was the same size. It didn't mess with other two cichlids(black belt and vieja mutt)

Beani and grammode together in a 55 is a bad idea IMO. I've personally never kept beani but everything I know of them points to aggressive fish that is very prone to bloat.

i agree both of these fish in a 55 is a bad idea, OP if i where you i would just get a single male Grammodes and keep him as a solo fish

Beani = evil incarnate. ( also they almost all get bloat, more frequent then black nasties IMO) so many are in breed now.

Grammodes almost as bad haha
Male equals full spangle pattern : female it stops at the mid line.

Together = ww3

But seriously, if you are entertaining tank mates IMO you have like two ways to go.

Groups of small tough little ones like cons or neets or jewels even five star generals if your feeling frisky.

Or if get like 2 big dumb parrots for the smaller Grammodes to grow with. Typically blood parrots don't cause aggression unless it's a devil or Midas and the red causes con Agro.

Absolutely fish by me has a nice 7 " Grammodes male now
