Grand Sumo Original and Red Devil

Amphilophus Labiatus, the Red Devil doesn't get the lager nauchal hump you see on some of the other species in the Amphilophus family. Cits and Xilos get some impressive humps but pure Labiatus tend to stay naturally somewhat smaller. No food is going to change that. Personnally I would not use it, there are much better foods on the market that will provide better overall nutrition and health. If you really want a fish with a huge nauchal hump Labiatus is not it.

very interested, what is the best food from your experience for RD.
I’m feeding them almost all kind of foods, plus I already ordered 4 Grand Sumo Original, they got to test it Haha

A fishes color & nuchal hump size is primarily determined by the genetics of the fish, the rest from the overall care that you give the fish. Any decent commercial food that contains adequate protein, fat, vitamins, etc will produce very similar results as far as nuchal hump growth is concerned.

Short of adding hormones to a food, there is no magical ingredient that is going to increase a fishes nuchal hump size. The hyperbole surrounding 'specialty' flowerhorn foods is simply marketing.

I did not experience sumo food with any kind of fish. And I will take ur comments into consideration. But when I googled about it, I read too many about this kind of food with result of only three weeks specially for Flowerhorn.

I will try it for the Flowerhorn and update u all about the result and I will start counting once I start feeding them.

Much appreciation.

I have 3 yrs male red devil the sumo did not do that much for him, but on the one year male red devil YES it works and the same for the female and she is also the same age ,but of course the male got bigger hump, for the flowerhorn, unfortunately two of them are female nothing changed.

I think, this kind of food is good and showing u result if u feeding them in young age I guess!

I hope this is help u a little.

He is right. I've seen some Red Devils with humps but I question if they're pure breads. I have an A. Amarillo that is about 5-6" and he's developing a nice Nuchal Hump and all I feed him is NLS Thera A+and some freeze dried shrimps, bloodworms and krill. As mentioned earlier, if it's not in the fishes genetics to have one, it won't no matter what.

^^^This. I trust his knowledge on the subject of fish nutrition... you should too.

One thing I'd like to add, a lot of things can be a factor. I think dominance in the tank can play a part in it becoming larger and I think breeding can cause it to shrink. I've seen a Red Texas (he never faded red, still a sweet looking fish) have a huge hump and it disappear when he started spawning and I've seen on my Amarillo where it went from sub dominant to dominant and it's hump got bigger when it became the more dominant fish.

What u saying it makes sense, I tried the food for RD , I wish I have male FH to see the result, as I heard within 3 weeks. I'm not against what u saying , but this kind of food maybe could help to enhanced the hump somehow.

Sometimes u need try things ur self, if it works perfect if not than u have learned something.
