Granulosus Vs Gulper

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Gulper Cat is a killing machine. is 10" Gulper can and will kill a 12" Oscar.

My 6" gulper eat my 6" Pearsi.

He put on 1" from that meal.

I saw a 8" gulper eat a 14" CK... Gulpers are like an Anaconda. They un-hook their jaw essentially and they are elastic, so they swallow anything within 2x as wide as their mouth is unhooked. Their lips have sandpaper like teeth to hold their prey as they Gulp it down. =)

1" per year for Pterodoras granulosa is extreme but perhaps possible. Mine grew about 6" a year or so, faster when smaller, slower when bigger.

My gulpers would regularly eat items up to 2x their size. It's amazing. Single Species only tank.

that is crazy

My granulosus grew from 2" to 12" in 4 months.....

More what i would expect

Nice

id go granulosus the gulper will be a species only tank soon

haha so i have been hearing

I have both, gulper is definitely more dangerous IMO. My GRANULATED is growing like crazy and looks like a blimp after feedings, almost like my gulper looked after it ate my kelberi. Good luck w/ your choice....

+1, I have 4 Gulpers..And if I get another tank...Im getting more Gulpers:headbang2
Everything mentioned is true, Each Gulper has its own personality...They will taunt you or just roam around the tank like a BOSS! haha

They have sandpaper like lips and inside of there stomach is lined with "fish hook" like teeth..I know because my thumb looks like a tasty shrimp and I have to "Pet" them to let them know its me haha

But they like to hide alot if they are not feeling good...

I have a big old granulated that is one of my favorite fish. He is 30 inches but is as lazy as can be so they seem more suited for tanks than say a 3o inch iridescent shark. I'll take some pics and post up a thread one of these day. They are cool catfish that I think are better suited for tank life than most of the options out there.

I've had both Gran and Gulper. My Gran grew at a quick rate, good fish IMO as was said before though they're hiders and you won't often see them. I also agree with everyone else on the Gulper and tankmates, you can give it a go but you probably be left with one well fed gulper. Gotta ask where are you getting a Gulper for $85 last time I saw one go for around that price was when Inifinite Aquatics was still selling strong.

Mate search youtube for gulper catfish feeding, you will be amazed! I dont think anything will be safe, including decor, heaters and filter parts. Just out of intrest how much ££$$'s do people spend a month on gulper munchies? Cant be cheap with the amount they can eat!!
