grapevine in tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a lot of grapewood in my 210. It will sink eventually, but it does take a while. Some pieces have grown the white fungus at first, while others never do. It doesn't rot particularly fast, I've had it for three years and it hasn't changed much, in fact I have a piece of mopani in a different tank that is rotting a lot faster.

And to think I turned my back on a nice piece a few years back, just because the store employee told me he had bad experiences with it in his tanks. Or, maybe the employee was just trying to keep the driftwood aside for himself. Good to know so many of you had good experiences with it.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have a piece of mopani wood in my betta tank and that thing grows so much fungus haha.

My next question is if reptile wood starts to mold or whatever, the mold/fungus shouldn't have a negative effect on the fish right?

I was also hoping that it would float anyways.

In my experience, I haven't seen it have any effect on the fish I've had. Most times you can scrub it off a few times after it grows back, and then it stops coming back. Most times. Obviously keep check on your water parameters and water changes.

I have heard that some wood for reptile environments getting sprayed with something, for protection.should easy to find out from the manufacturers.my snails ate the fungus that grew on a piece of manzinita I put in my tank
