hey i was wondering if it is okay that i put a piece of grapevine wood that is intended for a reptiles cage into my aquarium? i baught it brand new... will this do anything bad to my water or harm any of my fish? isnt it safer than putting in a log that i found in the wild?

I asked this same question a while ago and never did get any real replys to it....However we baught a good looking piece of it and it's been in one of our tanks for a few months now with no problems...

Not sure if it will change your water chem. or not but to be sure you could always make a smaller temporary tank with the vine in it and retest your water after a few days and see if the chem. remains the same.

Old grapevine tends to resist rot but younger segments often start to soften and fall apart after a few months submerged

From what I found when I was researching them was that are two kinds; one that is lighter in color and one that has both lighter and darker parts. The lighter wood has more of a tendency to rot away than the darker, but neither will do any harm to the tank.

Ive had a huge piece of grapevine in my tanks(various ones over the years) for a very long time. Its about 30" long and 16" tall and about 16" wide its a monster piece of wood and its a real ***** to drag up out of a tank because its so heavy. It was the darker/lighter mixed piece when i bought it....looks great in the tank IMO.
