grapevine log is it safe?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have two small betta tanks - 5 and 6 gallons and saw some grape wood pieces packaged for terrariums that I really liked. I almost bought them, but then I thought they might not be good submerged, so changed my mind. Now that you guys have said they seem to be fine, the next time I see a package of them that I like, I'll buy them.

:)

Ok, well I went ahead and bought the package I saw. Decided to give them a good boil first, to get them to sink and get out the excess tannins.

Lord have mercy! The water turns chocolate brown and I've been boiling it and adding water for hours on end!

When I go to bed tonight, I'll let it soak in the hot water overnight and then let it soak for a couple of weeks in cold water. I don't want a severe ph drop if there's too much tannin in the tank.

The pieces sure are good looking though!
