Has anyone ever captive bred grass pickerel? If so what size tank would one need to breed them and what other requirements would need to be met to succesfully breed these awsome fish?

Come on, how about northern pike? Musky? Chain pickerel? Red-finned pickerel? How do any of these breed?

If you want to be successful, get a pond. Set it up with plenty of plants, driftwood and throw in 5-10 fish of breeding size/age (you want to have plenty since they are not really sexually dimorphic, and you want to make sure you at least have some of each sex). Feed heavily and wait.

The smaller pickerel you might be able to do in a 100+ gallon tank, but the rest would probably need a good size pond (indoor or outdoor). Lots of plants and driftwood, lots of quality food (probably natural live foods would be best), and a group of breeding or near breeding age fish.

Would a 125g work for grass pickerel? I was thinking about building a 4'x4'x2' indoor pond also. What kind of plants would be best? How do you tell male from female grass pickerel? Thanks for any help.
