  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
also I can get orange-spots. But I would worry about the pickerel trying to eat them and die. Cuz there max size is small.

I have breeding pairs of orangespots, and they're four and five inches long. That's way too big for a pickerel to even be interested in trying to eat.

But, that's full grown.
kk well I am ordering 4 pickerel, 2 Ospots, and 2 redspots. I am spliting the pickerel with my friend

Don't underestimate what a pickerel will eat, or at least try to eat. I lost a juvenile pickerel when it choked on a green sunfish more than half its own length; I never expected it to attempt to swallow the thing.

*blink*

That's a warrior. I've never had a pickerel attempt anything like that.

i have my pickerel with my american eel. no problems yet...i dont know who would cause the problem though lol

The issue is not as much the aggression of sunfish, but the activeness as well. They will stress the pickerel too much, and the pickerel WILL eat them if there's the slightest chance it could fit into it's mouth...

I've always wondered about yellow perch... and thinking of trying it myself when I manage to get out and catch a few... the ones I've kept before have been pretty mellow and seems like they may be good tankmates for a pickerel. I was also thinking of some Sculpin, I love the buggers, and they spend a lot of time hiding, seems like they could be a good match, but I've never tried it

i would say that the sculpin and the pickerel wouldnt be good....sculpin require very cold and fast flowing water...while the pickerel is complete opposite liking warm non moving water.

The last pickerel I caught regurgitated a banded sculpin and a crayfish. He was in a little eddy of a stream behind a gravel bar, but obviously had been foraging in the main channel. Just thought I'd share.
