I have one redfin that is a more aggresive eater and he has put on an inch since ive had him which is about a mounth and the other growing slower because he seems to eat less and is more docile. But both have put on some girth.

Ive heard its not good to keep sunfish w/ them, because when they hover there fins quiver, and apparently it looks like food to the sunfish because they peck at them.

Redfins are tricky even with themselves. I have one that eats almost like a bass, he will smash a feeder as soon as it goes into the tank, while the other one is a stocker so he waits longer to smash the feeder. Which creates a problem because the more aggresive one tends to eat 3 feeders to the other redfins 1 feeder. But other than that they live really good together in their tank and dont bother the snails in there or the 11'' pleco that used to be in there. But a catfish like a bullhead would work except they tear up the plants which you need for the pickerel, so i would just go with the pickerel they are pretty cool looking and watching them crush feeders is really impressive.
It really is cool how they sit there, motionless, until its feeding time! They're lightning fast when they want to be!

Just do crappie. The two will get along togeather just fine. Crappie wont pick at them or anything and the two should get along togeather well. One thing though, crappie seem to be a bit fragile so if you decide to get some be careful when you transport them.
