I doubt it was muskellunge that caused a decline in native brook trout populations as there have been always other factors (habitat degradation, increasing water temperatures, turbidity increased, displaced by non-native trout) that caused it but please post a study and evidence here! I would love to read it!

water is pristine as it gets as this is the famous allagash region they have invaded.it is the last wilderness in the northeast. we don't have bass or sunfish up here naturally and don't have a abundance of minnows in our waters. the trout, salmon and whitefish are the only fish big enough to provide a decent meal for these muskie. there are a ton of studies and evidence going back to the early 80's but id spend half a day typing them out. i used to fish for trout ,salmon and whitefish in the spring at the mouth of the fish river where it dumps into the st. john. used to have 40 fish days. a lot of big white suckers too. in the last 10 years its got so bad you can't get 1 fish there now. but you can get a bunch of muskie there some 30lbs. in the same exact hole. they are eating machines and have wiped out all the native fish everywhere they've been. what keeps them going is the abundant invasive yellow perch we have around here. they produce so much they can't be wiped out like our other species.

Like I said, please post the study. I would love to read it!
