Gravel or Bare bottom

Nothing like a nice gravel bottom, if you don't mind the extra cleaning.

Nothing like a hassle free, clean gravel-less bottom.. i find gravel gets too dirty over time no matter how much u clean it...

I did an experiment once with 2 10g fry tanks.1 was bare bottom, the other had fine gravel mixed with a small amount of Aquaclay filter media. Both setups had air operated sponge filters.Same batch of fry halved up.GT's to be precise.I had a approx 40% better survival rate and roughly 50% better growth rate in the tank with substrate.I fed both tanks the same amount of food(baby brine then brine shrimp with crushed pellets as they grew)The filters ran off the same air pump and temp was the same. The tank with substrate was harder to clean but since this experiment I have always kept substrate in all tanks even if it is just a thin layer.
