Hello MFK! Currently I have 9" female Hoffa cichlid and a 6"male dovii. Right now I'm using black gravel, small decorative stones, and some river rock. They're in a 75g grow out tank. Would it be healthier for them if i took out all the gravel & left the river rock? Soon they will have a 180g show tank. What are your thoughts? I just want what's best for them.

sand bro.... sand..but its really up to you i'd scrap the river rock for sure but i personally dont like the marble sized rocks, im more of a sand guy myself...

I tried sand once and found a lot in the filter. Anybody have trouble with that?

an easy way to get rid of the lighter sand is rinse it before putting it in the tank. do this by putting it in a 5 gallon bucket then stick a garden hose in the bottom and let it over flow and stir it with your hand and the light sand will overflow out of the bucket and then your tank will not be cloudy ever

You probably had play sand. Try pool filter sand and you definitely won't have that problem
