it doesnt matter...which ever you preffer..just some advice if you go with sand. make sure its not crushed coral/seashell sand, b/c it will increase your PH a little...use crushed quartz pool filter sand...(i learned the hard way) :duh:

right now my Jar is in a gravel tank...i have a tank with sand waiting for him till he gets bigger..so again its really up to you.

Increases Ph and hardness and bufers it on that higher level. Coral sand is only suited, when in south american biotopes when your PH has a tendency to be very low ( around 5 something or even less )

I'm gathering green sand from down south....cant wait till my tanks done!

My monster tank is bare bottom with black on the bottom, back and one side. Some guys here don't like it, but I like the look and it's easier for maintenance. My tank isn't actually perfectly bare bottom now as I've added a big piece of driftwood for the bottom dwellers..
Nice, would love to see pix!:D

Green sand refers to the sand on beaches that are covered with olivine crystals

The mineral olivine is made of magnesium iron silicate and is green in color. It also the most common mineral on earth.

and is it safe for fw tanks and fish? I only asked..have seen a lot of damage occur out of that sort of thing....
