Right now my tank is bare bottom and its ok. I was wondering if i had one jag in a 55 what would be the best bottom to bring out his colors and how should i go about changing the back of the tank (backs up to white wall)

black back, black sides and black bottom.

So black gravel and how would i go about the back of the tank? I tried the black trash bag idea once (short on cash) but it gives off bad reflections. Would I be able to paint the outside part of the tank black or would the inside reflect

krylon flat black. for all for sides.

a nice black matte paint should do the trick

the lighting brings out the color, not the substrate. i have jags on all of the above and they look great. if you want the colors to pop, try different bulbs in your light setup till you find the one you like. if you want to cut the reflection from the bottom of the tank, paint the bottom (oustide) with krylon flat black. you could really use any paint, but rattle can is easiest to apply.

Very true, now that I think of it I tried three different types of bulbs to bring out a very nice color. It came down to the Oceanic and All Glass. The Oceanic Bulbs were bright but less florescent and the All Glass bulbs were very fluorescent and not AS bright. Oceanic and All Glass is the only way I know to describe the bulbs lol
