Gravel vacuum/cleaning?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That's what I'd do when I was gravel vaccing, then I'd just redirect my sump flow to a window for water changes.

Use a T valve post pump and some Pool filter backwash hosing (strong yet more flexible than a garden hose, and cheap) and point y outflow out the window, then just level up the sump.

The only failing is that if you're rinsing down your prefilter material you are affecting your bacteria.

Just a question, while you are running all this gravel vacuum water, at full siphon into your sump.
How is your pump keeping up with this extra water volume.

A normal python uses 1/2'' ID hosing. At full syphon it will only remove around 2-300gph at a guess. As long as his pump can handle that amount he is fine. Because the python will become his overflow as well. His overflow will slow down the amount the python is flowing.

A over flow only removes what is pumped into the tank.
