1000 GPH in a 55 gal. tank ? What kind of fish needs that high a turnover rate ?
I have 1050 GPH on my 240 giving me a 4X turnover , maybe this is not enough ?
Maybe I didn't understand the question either.

i am sure i understood..

yes the powerhead would work as a pump to your large tank. ofcourse its not gonna pump the max amount but still would be a nice flow regardless

I'm just gonna whip one out here, since the OP hasn't clarified... If you want to use a powerhead for more water movement, you cant go wrong with a Koralia. If you need more filtered turnover, an AC110 (or 2) never hurt anyone. Cheapest & most reliable 500gph filter you will find. Obviously you could use any combination of HOB & powerhead, or look into a more traditional powerhead with a pre-filter attachment. I know the AquaClear powerheads work well with the optional pre-filter. Hope that helps!

having copious amounts of filtration allows leeway if you forget a week of cleaning, or OD on something or whatever. I find extra filtration to be fantastic.
