Hey guys, might be picking one of these up...

Want to hit me with some info? As you know I have been poking around in the shark area for awhile, but this opportunity came up just today, and I want to learn as much as possible before I have to make a decision for myself, and probably my lab, as that is the location that will be able to provide him with the largest home for the longest period of time I feel.

Thanks guys.

No one has kept one? No words of advice?

Common...lets get a little discussion started on these guys. Dont wanna go into this blind, although honestly that would probably be fine with me.

I haven't kept one but I would treat it like any other bottom dwelling shark. Make sure the tank is well cycled, keep good current in the tank, make sure there is swimmg room and keep the DO levels above 6 ppm. And you should be fine.

Yup, it's your basic bamboo shark. They like hiding spots during the day and will swim around and knock over stuff at night.

Rock work in the tank is ziptied down. Very stable.

Tank has tons of h2o flow...its a 6' tank...the shark is 16" now, but he will be going in a bigger tank once my lab has it built. It will be the perfect species tank.

For now 2x koralia mag 6's shoudl be enough.

Tank is well cycled, and there is a monster air pump in the 55g sump that we are currently building to upgrade filtration, along with a double oversized skimmer.

What sort of tank mates can these guys have? Im assuming that sleeping fish are easy targets for them?

Just poking through some stuff on WWM guys...I will let you know if we end up bringing this guy in. Somewhat excited. Didnt expect my first shark adventure anytime soon, and then it happened. :D

Well I talked to the guy again today, and it looks like he is interested in some stuff in the lab that we are getting rid of. He is also interested in my wholesale fish prices.

That being said we are getting a shark guys!

The tank he will end up in will be 8' long. Hope that works for awhile.
It will be light with blue/red LED's, and sumped filtration. (With massive space dedicated to macro growth, air stone, and a purigen reactor)

I have been reading more guys, but what would you suggest for a substrate. I have fine aragonite..."reef grade" or we could use what is currently in the tank, sugar grain sand...I dont like it, and think it is trapping bad crap, but I will go with whatever you guys say.

Lets keep the discussion rolling on this guy, and when he comes in there will be pictures for sure!

I agree, I wouldn't go too fine because he likes to burrow/shake in the sand and if it is really fine you will consistently have sand storms. I am the guy trading the shark so that he has a bigger home. I have some pictures for everyone to see him.
