Well dang! I have two whisper hob filters that were so noisy that I couldn't stand them running. I went and bought two new aquatechs. I should try these tricks and see if I could use them.

I don't ever grease mine. 10+ years on the same impeller for my Fluval 304, no rattle.

i use that for my lips! it smells really good.
I think you use it between you and the Fx5 as well.

Where do you find 100% silicone grease (food safe)? I got the burts bee lip balm and some Murray's Polmanade but these filters are still noisey. Even my brand new, straight out of the box AC110 is making a noise.

If its making noise, buy a new impeller. Cheap money. They shouldn't be making noise and you should never need to grease them. Water is a lubricant its self and thats all you should need.

I have run many filters for years and never found a need to grease the impellers. The only impeller I had an issue with was on a AC110 after sucking up sand for a few days.

If you add anything that is thick, it can add resistance to the spin of the impeller. I am not sure on the effects of this with power consumption or if this would even cause an issue

Well the AC110 that I just bought is making a humming and slight grinding sound. And I cant adjust the intake tube to the left because it sounds like the impeller is catching on something. I have to adjust the intake all the way to the right and then it will run without catching. It sounds to me like there is a problem with my impeller and it's brand new!

It shouldn't make any noise at all. Mine didn't.

Do this to check on the issue

1- turn unit off
2- remove intake tube
3- remove media basket
4- remove the pump by turn it 90 degree.
5- check impeller and pump impeller well.
6- remove impeller cover plate (black piece in the AC110 which covers the impeller)
7- Make sure nothing is stuck in or on it.
8- Reinsert impeller cover plate. This will ensure that the plate was not jared loose during shipping causing the impeller to wobble.
9- reinstall pump and impeller through bottom and turn 90 degree to lock in place.

I've removed the impeller/pump from the filter about 4 times now. I'm not sure about what you are calling the impeller cover plate. I'll have to take the filter apart again and see if I can figure it out.
