I was always under the impression that you need a scientific collection permit to keep natives in canada and you still do for most species but I just found that anything that qualifys as bait fish is fair game to be collected and kept by anyone with a fishing licenses and you can only keep up to 120 specimens and it is incredible at what is considered a "baitfish" I am particularly interested in the stickle backs and log perch
