Yes there is a different between whale sharks and great whites. One of the big problems with great whites is not the size of the tank but the electricity surrounding the tank interferes with the shark’s senses.

While this is very true. Most sharks have problems with electrical fields. So that's not neccessarily a thing that unique to Great Whites.

The big problems with keeping the Great White - includes things such as Diet (especially adults), space (need lots of it), tank design (most public aquariums aren't well designed for this species), and especially temperment.

These are all bigger problems for keeping Great Whites, than just some stray electrical fields.

doesnt one aquarium house whales? not like killer whales. why cant they house a full grown great white?

You are probably thinking of the whale sharks at the Georgia Aquarium. They have never done well in captivity either.

I know that they haven't done that well in captivity, yet. But generally Whale Sharks have done better than Great Whites have to date.

You can't go any where and see a single adult (14-18') Great White in an Aquarium. But you can see 14-22' Whale Sharks in captivity.

Still - as I've stated before - IMPO - the Atlanta(Georgia) Aquarium should be larger to keep 4 adult whale sharks, for life.
