11 hours is alot. Try 8-9. And direct sunlight can still refract on walls and windows and produce ambient lite in the tank. U may not have enough BB to eat the algae. Id put ur temp at 76-78° cut 3 hours off timer and add more ceramic media for bio filtration. That should help, as far as removing it from substrare just rake and vac then 50% water change.

prolly caused by the long duration of high nitrates in your tank.

I just told u

Water change and vac

50% change will cut ur nitrates in half

Too much nitrate. WC and add some salt. Do not drop the temp, your bass may get ick.

Add salt?? For algae and nitrate??

That is bad advice.

Just change ur water and VAC

Yes! People with experience know that many types of algae, most notably, String Algae, will die at 0.3% salting or better. WC will of coarse take care of the nitrate. I maintain over a dozen outdoor ponds and cichla tanks with great results. This method is also published in numerous books including one from Dr. Erik Johnson, DVM. It's just advice for the op to take or leave like all advice on this forum.

Am I the only one thinking cyanobacteria?? I've never seen algae grow on sand and come off in clumps, but cyanobacteria... definitely.
