Green Anaconda

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It is more of a heat humidity thing. Also people usually use a screen top. How are you planning to secure the glass top? I think a glass top would work.

my lfs has a green snake. im not really good at saying what kind it is but it is green and looks like a boa or something around there. but whatever it is it is awsome!!

I would skip the 85g tank if it is a normal aquarium. They are very crappy at holding humidity and with anacondas low humidity you will risk RI. I would look into a big rubbermaid. They are cheap and you can get about the same surface area as an 85g. Glad to here about the DIY. Looking foward to it.

Thin sheets of clear plexi glass, etc placed on screen hold in humidity well in a tank .

I think a glass tank works pretty well for holding humidity. The only open air flow is the top, which can easily be partitioned off. For a snake like this that is gonna like a lot of water having a sealed glass tank would be ideal....

The glass itself is not very heavy, so i plan on putting weights on it.

I used to have screen tops with lexi glass and slid it to a spot where it would keep in himidity, but I don't need to anymore :)

Oh ya don't worry. I'm buying a male because I have read that they get 9-12 feet long. I will build it an 8 foot long enclosure but that will be temporary. When I'm older and have a house of my own, I want to have a green house attached to the house that has a pond in it. Thats where he will live:)
Very good but if I were you I would get there first and then buy me some conda;) Some inexpected thing may happen (wife, kids, etc) and then you have a 12foot snake that you dont know what to do with. Like we say here:" dont count with egg in the posterior of the chicken" Just my 5 cents;)

Weights are a no go. They will push it rite off. 8ft anconda is as strong as a 16ft retic. Try the other idea with a screen and plexiglass combo. These guys are stronger then you think. You do not want any neighborhood cats missing. Well maybe a few:naughty:.

A year ago this time of year someone had some CB Anacondas at the Reptile Expo in Mississauga. I can't recall if they were Green or Yellow. Probably Yellow, actually I think I have some photos of the snakes he bred. I don't remember the name. This isn't much help, but it's a lead if you can search online for a list of the vendors of the past expos. Check on reptilescanada.com in the old posts.

see attached.

Edit: It's a Yellow. Upon further thought I remembered I chatted with the vendor and he said he may breed some Greens but there wasn't much demand and that just a one or two clutches can fill the demand for them easily in this area's market.

Ben Renick, with Renick Reptiles, is hands down, the absolute best breeder you'll find. For the life of me, I can't remember if he's in the States or Canada tho. I know he'll ship.

He sells very high quality Greens, Yellows and he's now breeding Hybrids.

No matter the species, you wont find a better looking snake, than the specimens he breeds.
