Sounds like a really interesting screen design.
I love Anoles but see plenty of them outside, without needing any in tanks. Judging by when I see the swarms of babies I'd guess you'd have to get it pretty hot for breeding but I'm no expert. Watching them in the wild males can sometimes be close together as long as they have separate perches to show off from, but that might only be short term. So yeah enough amateur advice, good luck and I'd love to see some pics once you get it going.

So I've decided on a tank with green anoles. It will have fake/live plants with sticks and everything. It'll hopefully turn out to be a nice display tank when it's finished. Their home will be a 125 glass tank with DIY'ed screen top which can be opened in 6 sections. Every foot essentially will be able to be opened. I figure this way it will reduce the chance of losing any that get scared and try to get out when I opened the top.

Now on to the real questions. How many can I get? I'm not here to make every inch of the 125 filled with green anoles but....3 anoles in a 125 isn't going to cut it. From researching a little bit(I have lots more to do :D)it seems that the males like to have a territory of their own. So 1 male with 2-3 females is what I hear is a good ratio. So what would be a good ratio for the 125?

Does it matter what type of plants I put in the tank. Is live better than fake? Can they cut themselves on live plants?

What's the chance of them breeding? I would like some males just because they do look different but not really planning on breeding. If it happened it would be super awesome if not then that's fine.

Exactly what kind of vitamin dust do they need? I always hear sooo many different kinds for reptiles. What would a brown anole need in it's lifetime concerning vitamin dust?

That's it for now.

Here's the thread I posted earlier so people can understand more if they want.

My GF just showed me that the "brown" anoles that I wanted are actually the green ones that I have noticed at work. They can change colors apparantly. So....everything is the same just it's green anoles now. Sorry to confuse the masses.

If your going planted, definitely use a pothos. I bought like a 5" by 5" inch one for only $2 at my local mernards. I gave it a good spray with the hose and then changed the soil to humus. A 40lb bag of humus costed $3 at my local plant nursery. Needless to say the crested gecko loves climbing all over the pothos. Same could be done with spider plants.

Another idea I would do if I was going to do a tank would to have cork board tiles going along the back of the tank. Would look really nice imo.

Wow!!! Those woul;d be the happiest Anoles in the world, lol

Make sure you have tons of UV/UVB light. If you lived closer, I would give you my Anole, simply because he couldn't possibly do any better

In the museum I worked at we successfully kept 5 anoles in a 10gallon tank without an issue. I would say an anole for every 2 gallons or so as long as there are plenty of hiding spaces.

Awesome! You could do like 20 males and 40 females! Or maybe 15 males and 45 females, so each male gets a few more girls to court... ;)

I wonder if its better to start off with a few and add more later, or just add them all at once so they can figure out their territories together?

I would add all of them at once considering that if you intradused a male you would have some fighting. And a 125 with lifve plants would be a PAIN to rescape.

Yeah I'm hoping the screen design works out. I'm sure it will, I just need to go to Home Depot and scope some materials out. Thanks, will make a thread in the Photo lounge on how it all goes together.

Pothos and spider plants are super easy to grow. I've had both. Would be nice once they got bigger. I would like to get some other plants too. Thinking I'll have to supplement with fake until the plants get growing well. The GF wants to help in that department. :) I'm thinking a drainage layer of rocks on the bottom then coco fibre then organic soil some humus would work too.

That's the plan! Thanks, thinking of having lights for the plants of course then whatever light they would need. Haven't researched enough on that part will do of course before I get them.

Thanks for the info. I also posted this on a popular reptile forum. Figured with them and MFK I should be set with keeping them perfectly.

I asked this question on another reptile forum. :grinno: We'll see!

Yeah I might have to. Or add some then add the rest a week later since I don't know if I can afford a bunch all at once. lol I don't plan on rescaping much. The plants would grow, at first I would get fake until they grew.

You could possibly just add however many males you wanted first, and then add in females once the males have all established territories. Or maybe do it the other way around. Add all the females, let them adjust to the giant tank, then toss in however many males you're going to try and let them duke out territories and girlfriends.
