Yah I didn't see anything that looked like eggs on the lice or the fish so I kust pinched it between my left index finger and left thumb nails while holding the newly purchased baby megaladoras, I then cut the lice in half and a koi ate it.

So this lice was asian in origin?

Thanks for everything oddball, and sorry for not citing pic sorces.

Lice was on a fish purchased earlier today and removed and killed before added to tank.

Watch the fish for 'fretting' (breathing hard and darting). It could be a sign that there are still lice in the gill tissues. If you don't see anything out of the ordinary then, the single adult was the only problem and it's over.

Intensify you maintenance a bit (coupla weeks) to keep the water perfect. Your cat can have several trauma sites (holes) from the proboscis of the louse. Keeping very clean water will allow the cat's wounds to heal without contracting secondary infections in the wound sites.

Thnaks Oddball I will make sure the tank is extra clean, tank had a 60% water change/algae scrub/sand bed aeration/replacement of filter media this past week.

The fish seems to be acting normal. So hopefully it was just the adult.

When the lice use their proboscus, would the fish barely feel a thing like with a mosquito or tick on me or painful?

Can you back that up with a cited reference?

Nope! Like I said it's just what I heard. Although I've never seen it done either, I trust my ex-boss, the manager and lab technician of the marine laboratory where I worked. I am also curious about it, but theoretically it seems like it would kill almost anything!

Are you inferring that each louse needs to be injected with a saline solution in order to kill them? If so, how would the young argulus be dealt with? Nits attach themselves to gill filaments.

Yeah I think so. I wasn't addressing the problem of future generations. Just a non-invasive way to remove males.

Fish infested with lice will scratch themselves around trying to get the lice off them. They will certainly feel pain in reaction to the damage done by the lice.
