My female turns black in breeding colors. How big is your female? Mine will ONLY eat flake food and maxed out at about 3.5".

She's about 4", I think the male is around 6"TL maybe. The female turns black too. Actually both of them turn black everytime they breed, but my male doesn't change colors until the fry are free swimming.

they're relatively peaceful for archocentrus cichlids. I wouldn't put them in a community setup though if they're breeding pair. I have a pair of ameca splendens and a BN pleco. I've kept platys in there too, but they get brutalized when they breed, so I left them out for the time being. Their mouths are bigger than you think too.
