By the way what is your new book? This is important because many ig books out there have outdated info that can put your pet in the harm way;)

No nothing of that. What Im saying is that iguana care has made a exponencial evolution from touse early days of ig care. I still have books that recomend dog food, insects, eggs and meat as a sorce of suplementary protein for igs:screwy: No wonder in thouse days it was so comon that igs died young. Many still do but that is fault of the owners, not lack of info. If you want to get a good iguana book (as well you should) here´s 3 great books:"iguanas for dummies" of Melissa Kaplan,"Green iguana, the ultimate owner´s book" by James Hachfield (hoping Im spelling rigth:D) and "green iguana" from the advanced vivarium sistems. Many outside that are no good:(

Get real. Seriously. You were irresponsible. 100%.Yeah thanx fo that advice! I really apreciate it...:chillpill:

Anyway the info is there, I just hope you realise that this lizard WILL get at least 5 foot in length, and can be quite unpredictable. This is coming from a RESCUE female iggy owner.

5 foot in length? yyou call that a problem ?well not for everyone:screwy:

P.S. do you own one?:grinno:

Please note the yellow sentences. You really are stupid :screwy:

  • You think a 6 foot Iguana that can bite fingers off and can leave deep scratches and scars with their nails not a problem? Then that is PURELY IDIOTIC. That shows just how much of a noob you are to Iguanas.

Now. There is you owned noob (: Stop acting like an expert on Iguanas when you bought one on impulse not even knowing the poor thing needed UV :screwy: By the looks of your setup, it had next to ZERO humidity. The real 'experts' if any here are the ones who have owned them. I have suffered a severe bite from an Iguana, which required stitches. It was very painful. Do I call this a problem? Yes. Major infection is a real problem.

  • I asked if you realised their eventual size to help you so chill your ass. Last time I do that. I thought 'This noob didn't even know an Iguana of all things needed UV maybe he doesn't know the eventual size it can aquire and I'll warn him now...'

  • What are you even doing asking advice to throw it back in our faces? Large Cichlids much?

  • My first post to you had a list of basic requirements for the species mate so stop being a spoilt brat.

  • Nobody here is acting like a know it all. You asked for advice, so people who actually have hands on experience gave it to you. Until this post i never called you an idiot, I said it was a classic case of an idiotic impulse buy. Get your facts straight ;)

  • Now, if you will stop acting like a know it all yourself (when its very clear you know almost zilch on iguanas..and thats Ok we all start somewhere.. but don't throw it back in our faces..how rude!) and accept that you need advice on something you know very little about and stop attacking it for us..we will continue to give it to you. In which case, I know of a very good book which is not expensive at all which will lead you in the right direction, and is excellent regarding feeding.

Iguana's are great to own, the pictures of bites above are for educational purposes only of what can happen on the recieving end of an angry male in breeding season, and you would do well to take note of this problem that really is 'not a problem' according to you. Other than this, if cared for correctly, Iguanas will give years of pleasure and are an absolutely amazing animal to own. Good Luck with yours. Lets hope you do the best by it and take our advice and stop throwing it back in our faces ;)

I will get pictures for you. Many of my iguana are on the computer not the laptop, I will have to transfer them.

I will have to try get one of the enclosure. Her vivarium is in the garage which has no lighting other than from her Uv lights and Heat bulbs and with nothing but a camera phone it is hard I'm sure you can imagine.

I have a pic somewhere of her old 8x5x8 (LXWXH) when she was four foot long but her new one is bigger.
Be patient, I will get them for you.

I'll admit that Jessica came down pretty harsh from the get-go, but she is right; the whole diet and UV thing is pretty darn important for iguanas and things you should have done more research before buying the animal. But chalk it up to lesson learned; can't change the past. Any advice is on a take-it-or-leave-it basis.

But I do sympathize with Jessica's frustration. I've been in this hobby for many years as well and have seen too often the ill results of "impulse purchases" especially with iguanas. So whenever we come across a thread with someone asking "I just got a baby iguana, do they need UV and what do I feed it?"....I'm not going to lie; I roll my eyes, sigh with frustration and think to myself "here we go again." Its nothing personal, but do understand where we're coming from.

Another good example just recently a little more closer to home. My gf and I just went to the big herp show in Daytona. Despite my reservations, she bought a $15 horned lizard. She gets home and does some research and realizes all they eat is ants. The thing is barely and inch long and she is now ordering ants online. She knows its an uphill battle at this point regarding the little guy's survival. My point is (and she agrees) that if she knew then what she knows now, she woulda never got that lizard.

So I encourage EVERYONE to do proper research, research, research, BEFORE getting the animal.

Thanks Ophi for explaining it better XD. I really shouldn't have come down so hard straight away, like you said I just get major frustration. They must be the most abused reptile in the hobby?

I guess in a perfect world people would just have better attitudes towards reptile keeping :( Just makes me sad, really really sad :(

Like you said Ophi, whats done is done. If people want to take our advice its their choice, theres nothing more I can do and I just gotta realize that :(

Kinda annoyin when we get it thrown back in our faces though lmao.

I have searched for an advice coz i cannot change the past anymore and what a I got is an advice that is really annoying.actually I can buy books and do research on the net by myself, but why are we her for? we are here in this forum to share our own experiences, have a gathering and have personal some advice, why not just give info instead of blaming him/her,I find alot of persons like that in this forum some would even give this link www.google.com
